Why We Love it
Vintage Seamasters - whether of the casual/dress variety or the professional diver line, are some of our absolute favorite pieces here at Analog/Shift. The design language, quality, and reliability makes them some of the greatest collectable timepieces from the mid-20th century.
Fast forward 60 some years ahead and you have this piece, the modern Seamaster Professional Planet Ocean. It features many of the characteristics found on our favorite vintage Seamaster Professionals, including the oversized 42mm stainless steel case, black dial, and 'Broad Arrow' hands, and couples them with a ratcheting unidirectional bezel, sapphire crystal, and robust bracelet. Internally, the Planet Ocean features a Calibre 2500 Co-Axial chronometer rated movement, which means greater precision, stability and durability.
In excellent condition throughout, this piece is also accompanied by its original inner and outer boxes, instruction book, warranty card, pictograms card, chronometer certificate and a repair receipt dated from 2015. Sometimes you just want a great looking, tough-as-nails modern watch, and the Planet Ocean fits the bill brilliantly.
The Story
After bursting on to the dive watch scene with the Seamaster 300 in 1957, Omega invested heavily in R&D throughout the 1960's in their quest to make their watches up to any underwater task. Indeed, their client list reads like a "who's who" of the golden age of underwater exploration - The Royal Navy, COMEX, and Jacques Cousteau were all known for their affinity towards Omega divers.
With this legacy in mind, in 2005 Omega launched the “Planet Ocean” collection, combining design queues from the iconic Seamasters from the past and precision-oriented Co-Axial escapements.
